Above: The George Washington Equestrian Monument, circa 1906, looking north towards Ninth and Capitol Streets.  On the left side is the Hotel Richmond, constructed in 1904 and expanded by 1911.  On the right side in the original portion of the former Life Insurance Company of Virginia building, constructed in 1906, still in use as part of the General Assembly Building.
